If you are someone who appreciates interesting architecture, spacious rooms
and large gardens, then Out of Africa will be the ideal establishment for you
to spend a night or two next time you travel to the north. Contemporary
African motifs and objects d'art are the main theme in this elegant, Cape
colonial-style lodge, which can host large conferences, tourist groups, and is
the perfect setting for weddings and other receptions.

The lodge belongs to Leon and Elke van Eck, who opened the Out of Africa
Bed & Breakfast establishment, also in Otjiwarongo, fifteen years ago. Leon
originally hails from South Africa, while Elke grew up in Otjiwarongo. Building
the larger and more upmarket Town Lodge was an obvious extension to the
bed & breakfast establishment.

The floor plan of the lodge was drafted by an architectural student Anita
Gianni, and built by Leon's father, fondly referred to in Otjiwarongo as Oupa
van Eck. Since opening in 2002, the lodge has been managed by the van Eck
couple together with mainly female managers, who have a flair for finesse
and the catering of excellent cuisine.
